Hybrid Battery Warning Signs and Diagnostics
Check Engine Light (CEL):
- When your hybrid battery fails, the CEL will illuminate, indicating an issue. The vehicle's computer will store diagnostic trouble codes, with the primary code being P0A80, which specifically relates to hybrid battery malfunctions.
Master Warning Light (Red Triangle):
- Many mistakenly believe that an illuminated Red Triangle means the hybrid battery is failing. In fact, this Master Warning Light can indicate various issues, not solely related to the hybrid battery. It may signal problems like a weak 12-volt battery, low oil, low coolant, or low brake fluid.
No Codes or CEL:
- If the CEL is off and there are no stored trouble codes, it is highly unlikely that the hybrid battery is the issue. In this case, other vehicle problems may be present. We recommend consulting a dealership or certified mechanic for a thorough diagnostic.
