When your hybrid battery fails, your Check Engine Light (CEL) will illuminate. This is the vehicle telling you there is an issue, and that the computer has stored diagnostic trouble codes. A hybrid battery malfunction will cause the computer to set and store trouble codes that relate to the hybrid battery malfunction. The main trouble code that will appear is P0A80.

If the CEL is not illuminated, then there may be a chance the is another issue going on with the vehicle. Many people believe an illuminated Red Triangle means the hybrid battery is bad. This is a common misconception. The red triangle in your vehicle is the Master Warning Light. This will illuminate for a lot of different reasons. Unfortunately, it does not pinpoint the hybrid battery. If the CEL is not illuminated, but Master Warning Light comes on and off intermittently, this may indicate a weak 12-volt battery, low or too much oil, low coolant, low brake fluid, etc.

If there are no codes, and no check engine light, it is 100%, not the hybrid battery. Various things can be going on with the vehicle if this is the case. As much as we'd love to help, we would have to refer you to the dealership or certified mechanic for a proper diagnostic.
