Your accelerator pedal is connected to a throttle valve, and when you step on the accelerator pedal, it opens the throttle body - letting more air into the engine, causing the engine to rev and accelerate. Over time, the valve to the throttle body gets dirty and sticky with goo and carbon and needs to be cleaned as part of regular vehicle maintenance. If in this example, the throttle body is not cleaned, the valve can actually get stuck to the floor of the throttle causing it to not open and close properly. If it is unable to open, then it won't allow air into the engine, causing the engine to fail to start or poor engine power. Because the hybrid battery gets recharged from engine power, if the gas engine is not working properly due to this, then it will not recharge the hybrid battery optimally, causing it to discharge. Hybrid batteries are not designed to solely provide power for the vehicle without the gas engine. The gas engine needs three ingredients in order for it to function properly: gas, air, and spark. In this example situation, the hybrid battery failed due to the engine maintenance - not Green Bean Battery, which may not necessarily be covered under warranty. In many situations, if this situation happens to you, a Warranty Advisor will ask you to resolve the engine issue first.
