Because the hybrid battery gets recharged from engine power, any condition that inhibits the engine's performance can cause the hybrid battery to fail prematurely. An example of this could be a dirty throttle body. Your accelerator pedal is connected to a throttle valve, and when you step on the accelerator pedal, it opens the throttle body - letting more air into the engine, causing the engine to rev and accelerate. Over time, the valve to the throttle body gets dirty and sticky with goo and carbon and needs to be cleaned as part of regular vehicle maintenance. If - in this example - the throttle body is not cleaned, the valve can actually get stuck to the floor of the throttle causing it to not open and close properly. If it is unable to open, then it won't allow air into the engine, causing the engine to fail to start or poor engine power. Because the hybrid battery gets recharged from engine power, if the gas engine is not working properly due to this, then it will not recharge the hybrid battery optimally, causing it to discharge.

Another example of this could be lack of gasoline, or even having your vehicle sit for an extended period of time (30+ days). Like any other battery, it needs to be used so that it can charge and discharge. If you don't drive it, it can cause it to fail prematurely - which is not a fault of Green Bean Battery.
